What is EYBA

The European Young Bar Association (EYBA) is a non-profit making, multinational young lawyers association founded on 23rd May 1993 in Prague to encourage links between and to promote the interests and welfare of young lawyers throughout geographical Europe.
At formation the EYBA had 18 member associations, formalising informal relations which had existed between many city young lawyers' groups over a number of years. The number of EYBA members is constantly increasing and currently the EYBA represents the interests of over 200,000 young lawyers across geographical Europe, making it the world’s largest young lawyer group.

At its foundation the EYBA was an association gathering representative young lawyer groups such as Young Bars, Young Solicitors Groups and other young lawyer forums from around Europe.

Membership of the EYBA is open to Groups and Individuals. Member Groups of the EYBA are mainly city based rather than national young lawyers' bodies reflecting the reality of the bar structures across the majority of Europe where the City Bar is most relevant to local lawyers. Within continental Europe, where a local young lawyers group does not exist or is not a member of the EYBA, lawyers can apply for individual membership. Outside Europe, any young lawyer can apply to join the EYBA as an Associate member.

The EYBA promotes interaction and networking among its Members, organizing legal conferences and networking social events across Europe, and holds once a year an Annual General Meeting, when the Executive Committee and President – who run the association - are elected for a 1-year term.

The legal events organized by the EYBA throughout the year can also take place in association with Member Groups, and can be held at Member Group events such as Annual General Meetings and other International Rentrees.

If you or your Member Group wishes to organise a seminar in co-operation with the EYBA please email us at info@eyba.org or get in contact with an Executive Committee Member.

The EYBA also represents its members further afield, interacting with young lawyers groups from The United States, Australia and Canada amongst others.

In particular the EYBA has links with external bodies such as the International Bar Association (IBA) of which EYBA is a sustaining member, and the American Bar Association, Young Lawyers division (ABAYLD) to which the EYBA is an affiliate.

The EYBA issues a digital magazine- the "EuroLawyer™", which has been fully renovated at the end of 2009 and that is distributed via e-mail to its Members. The magazine focuses both on legal topics and on Member Groups' activities and events. Articles from the latest issue are available on this website.

New Members from all European Countries are welcome. Special membership fees may apply for applicants from Eastern Europe. Associate members from the International legal community are also welcome. For more information please download the EYBA digital brochure.
